Job Description:
The Southern region is Tasmania’s most populated area with approximately 250,000 people. It is also the location of both the State capital Hobart, and the main acute hospital in the region, the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
The 684 bed Royal Hobart Hospital is Australia’s second oldest hospital, (opened 1804) and is currently undergoing a phased transformational renovation program to further expand and modernise its services and facilities as part of our ambitious Royal Hobart Hospital Masterplan 2020-2050 program.
The Royal Hobart Hospital is a major clinical teaching and research centre working closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.
Education and Support
- The hospital provides a range of treatments and services, including acute, sub-acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services.
- As well as caring for patients who are admitted to hospital many services are also offered to patients when they are discharged, in emergency situations through the Emergency Department and at specialist clinics on a doctor’s referral.

The role:
The Registered Nurse:
- Strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate nursing care in partnership with patients/clients, their families and other health professionals.

The area:
- Neonatology Service provides services at Level 6 for a range of care from well infant care to highly specialised care, for sick, low birth weight and/or premature infants, and/or infants born with congenital or other conditions.
- The intensive care service provides for the majority of critically ill newborns and children (up to 14 years of age) in Tasmania.
- The unit has provision for 28 bed capacity: seven (8) neonatal intensive care beds, four (4) paediatric intensive care beds including (4) N-Class isolation rooms; 16 bed Level 3 Special Care Nursery which includes three (3) High Dependency beds.
- The service is active in international, national and local research and participation in clinical trials.
- The Neonatal and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service – operates as a separately resourced and funded state-wide retrieval and transfer service co-ordinated by the NETS/PETS Team in collaboration with Aeromedical and Medical Retrieval Division of Ambulance Tasmania.
- The service provides safe inter-hospital emergency and non-emergency transportation of unborn babies, neonates and critically ill children from hospitals intra-state and inter-state, via road, single fixed wing aircraft or helicopter transport.
Details of Appointments
Multiple permanent, full time, shift-worker (fully rotational) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Base Salary: $69,835 - $96,428 per annum plus 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging
- Access to the Grade 4 salary range $90,293 - $96,428 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Current Working with Children Registration
