Job Description:
  • Conduct research related to mice: growth, enumeration and in vitro characterization of live attenuated Salmonella vaccines to be administered to mice to then quantitate vaccine titers in different tissues as a function of time after vaccination, the duration of excretion of viable vaccine cells and degrees of protective immunity to Salmonella challenge. Compare, analyze, and modify methods to improve vaccine evaluation.
  • Conduct research related to chickens: growth, enumeration and in vitro characterization of live attenuated Salmonella vaccines to be administered to day-of-hatch chicks to then quantitate vaccine titers in different tissues as a function of time after vaccination, the duration of excretion of viable vaccine cells and degrees of protective immunity to Salmonella challenge. Compare, analyze, and modify methods to improve vaccine evaluation.
  • Prepare and incubate eggs to yield needed day-of-hatch chicks.
  • Prepare facilities to conduct studies with chickens.
  • Collect and record data, analyze, and prepare reports.
Expected Salary:

$45,600; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and research experiences in microbiology (especially with pathogens) and in use of lab animals (especially chickens and mice).
