Job Description:

The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist - Neurology vacancy at 0.5 FTE (38 hours per fortnight) in the Department of Neurology at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State’s tertiary referral centre and is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine.

All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce and the Tasmanian community.

Details of Appointment

Permanent part time, day worker (with on-call) position working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing 23 January 2024

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $163,005 - $247,768 per annum + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging.

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $234,726 -$247,768 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

    Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Also desirable criteria are one or more of the following:

  1. Develop sub-specialty interest and clinic that complements others in the department.

  2. Participation in electroencephalogram (EEG) reporting and/or nerve conduction studies (NCS)/electromyography (EMG) testing.

  3. Participation in teaching medical students, undergraduates, and neurology advanced trainees, with option of a clinical title with the University of Tasmania.

  4. Current or future research interest

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
