The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State’s tertiary referral centre and is also the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The RHH Urology Department is passionate about delivering the highest possible standard of care to its patients and is actively involved in research and in teaching medical students from University of Tasmania, junior staff, and in training doctors from other specialities and nurses.

To be a strong applicant for this position you should hold specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Urology).

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $163,005 - $247,768 per annum, pro rata + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $234,726 -$247,768 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
  • A new wages agreement has been agreed and is currently being registered in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The new rates apply to this position and are effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $27,535 per annum, pro rata
  • Communication allowance of $1,948 per annum, pro rata
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $24,927 per annum, pro rata
  • Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees.
  • Other allowances as applicable

Period of Employment

Staff Specialist – Permanent Appointment working up to 76 hours per fortnight day work (with on call) from ASAP

Visiting Medical Officer - Fixed term part-time day work (with on-call), working (up to) 36 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible for a period of three years.

Duties

  • Provide services in Urology including diagnosis, treatment and care for patients, both inpatient and outpatient, at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs.

  • Observe all hospital policies and procedures and statutory regulations.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
