Job Description:

The Assistant Scientist for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) is directly responsible, in collaboration with faculty leading PMR studies, for the coordination and development, implementation of PMR research, data collection, strategic planning, administrative oversight and regulatory activities for the research portfolio of PMR and clinical studies conducted within the department and Sports Performance Program. his position directly interfaces with the PMR Residency Director and Education Committee to provide research mentorship and oversight to residents on research projects and Quality Improvement initiatives. The Assistant Scientist position will have a clinically-oriented teaching component in the rehabilitation sciences, and supervision of undergraduate interns in the department and will be expected to participate in residency didactics and relevant coursework. The Department of PMR currently focuses teaching and research efforts on integrative approaches to improving function at the physical, cognitive, vocational and social levels. Possible related areas of research and teaching might include exercise prescription and physiological adaptation to movement, functional anatomy, gait analysis, physical therapy modalities, interaction of psychological and physical factors on inpatient and outpatient outcomes. Obtaining external funding is a key responsibility. The candidate will be expected to seek external funding for research, and results of research/scholarly work should be published, disseminated in peer-reviewed journals, and/or presented at conferences or symposiums.

Expected Salary: Commensurate with experience and academic qualifications.
Minimum Requirements:

Doctorate in Health Sciences or Research field and two years of research experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. preferred in Rehabilitation Science or a related field.
    • Advanced clinical degree such as Physical Therapy (P.T.) is also preferred.
    • Candidates with clinical expertise in therapeutic interventions and experience in a physiatry environment.
    • Two years’ experience in working within and/or conducting pragmatic and community-based health care projects.
    • Attention to details, particularly with regard to implementing project protocols and in terms of collecting data to ensure data accuracy and integrity, data auditing.
    • Reliable, strong communicator with research teams and participants.
    • Strong understanding of functional anatomy and previous experience with exercise and physical function testing.
    • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with a variety of community leaders and members, health care providers, faculty and staff.
    • Experience working with electronic health records or electronic health record data, performing statistical analyses and research mentorship preferred.
    • Skills related to case report form development.
