Job Description:

Lab management
Lead the training and maintenance of operational policies and procedures, following the instructions of the Core Director and Administration. Focus on improvements to current protocols and implementation of new protocols. Schedule equipment PM and instrument repair calls. Serve as a liaison between the lab and vendors for installation of new instrumentation alongside other core leadership. Address customer inquiries about NGS services in the iLab. Serve as lab safety liaison (EHS contact and EHS lab officer) for the NextGen DNA Sequencing Core.

Project Management
Serve as primary point of contact to customers. Schedule customer consultations & new project kick-off meetings. Prepare/modify Project Statement of Work documents defining deliverables and timelines. Coordinate sample receipt from customers. Coordinate delivery of samples, libraries and data across cores. Conduct progress reporting and project data delivery meetings. Aide ICBR Cyberinfrastructure, Gene Expression/Genotyping, and Bioinformatics Cores and other cores for multi-cross core projects and sequencing data delivery

Staff Management
Train core facility staff, giving input for UFEngaged evaluations of day to day activity to the staff supervisor. Approve time for employees in the absence of the Core Director andassist with creating job descriptions. Review applications and assist with the core interview process. Support troubleshooting, problem solving, and crucial conversations among the staff along with the Core Director.


Technical
Perform quality control assays to determine if submitted samples are suitable for processing. Prepare high quality sequencing libraries (Illumina and ONT). Operate Illumina iSeq, MiSeq, NovaSeq6000, PacBio and ONT PromethION instruments for customer projects.

Provide back up for the Scientific Director during their absence and perform key duties to maintain the function of the NextGen DNA Sequencing Core, such as senior staff and strategic retreat.

Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

$60,000 - $65,000, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

MS required or 7 years science related, core specific advanced training and work experience and/or post-graduate coursework. Requires at least 3 years in core facility specific applications and at least 2 years of that in research-based technology. Work experience in multi-user core facility preferred. Core or technology specific licensure and/or certifications where applicable. Additionally yearly certificate and compliance training if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA purification, DNA cloning, and PCR.

Experience with NGS DNA sequencing library preparation and instrument operation for Illumina and PacBio platforms in multi-user core facility.

Familiarity with Standard Operating Procedures

Experience with basic concepts and practice of project management.

Excellent organizational skills; exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Experience working on highly functioning teams.

Computer literacy in Windows/UNIX systems, Microsoft Office package.

Familiarity with CrossLab Fiscal software, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
