Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking motivated and experienced Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to work for the Department of Health across the North West Region.
The maternity unit, housing the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity patients for the region, is located at North West Private Hospital (NWPH) in Burnie, with antenatal and postnatal services offered at both the NWRH and MCH. There are approximately 1000 births annually and staffing includes experienced midwives. High risk births are managed in conjunction with the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) supported by the local endocrinology and diabetic teams. The unit is supported by a Level 4 Neonatal Unit and an 8 bed Level 4 Intensive Care Unit. The outreach services are located at picturesque regional centres which include the West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and King Island District Hospital and Health Centre.
This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels. Fellows of the Australian College for Rural and Remote Medicine and Fellows of the Australian College of General Practitioners with the relevant skills and qualifications are encouraged to apply. The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.
Salary
You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $163,005 – Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $228,206 with further salary increments available.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available, but not limited to:
- Allowance in lieu of private practice of 35%
- North West Recruitment and Retention allowance of 25%
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $24,927 per annum
- Fully maintained vehicle or allowance in lieu up to $25,758 per annum

Essential Requirements
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
- Current Working with Children Registration
- Current Drivers Licence
Position Features:
Participate in an Oncall Roster with other Specialist Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
Travel across the North West to provide services as required/rostered. This includes the following sites where relevant: North West Regional Hospital; Mersey Community Hospital; West Coast District Hospital; Rosebery Community Health Centre; Devonport Community Health Centre; Smithton District Hospital; King Island Hospital & Community Health Centre; and the North West Private Hospital.
