This is a 12-month nontenure-accruing instructional faculty position available in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Primary responsibilities include the oversight and administration of the undergraduate FYCS program. This includes the academic major, minor, program specializations and practicum, student advising and mentoring, student clubs/organizations, and scholarships. Other responsibilities will include supervision of academic program advisers, curriculum development, student conduct and conflict resolution, recruitment and retention initiatives, and ensuring program quality and accreditation. The program coordinator will be the primary liaison with other undergraduate programs and schools within the university and across the university system and represent FYCS to Alumni and UF. The individual will be expected to serve on department, college, and university committees related to undergraduate academic programs and participate in college-level shared governance.

The successful candidate will also engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching undergraduate courses, advising and mentoring undergraduate students, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for the teaching program, supervising undergraduate research and creative work, publishing teaching-related scholarship, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. Faculty are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.

The Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences has 30 faculty located on the Gainesville campus. The interdisciplinary FYCS academic program has an undergraduate major in FYCS, a master’s program in FYCS (both on campus and online), and a Ph.D. in Youth Development and Family Science (YDFS). The department has approximately 250 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students enrolled in its academic programs. The department encompasses programs in youth development, prevention science, family science, consumer economics and resource management, community development and sustainability, and human nutrition, food safety, and health. FYCS undergraduates “are well‐rounded professionals who provide service and seek to contribute to the common good. Commensurate with Experience and Education

A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Family, Youth and Community Sciences (FYCS), Human Development and Family Science (HDFS), Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or a closely related discipline is required. Experience in undergraduate instruction and advisement is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal communication, teamwork, and leadership. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
