Lead Water and Wastewater Engineer
Work location: Brisbane, QLD
Roster: Monday to Friday
An opportunity to join the exciting and energetic Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) team, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group.
FFI has identified the opportunity to develop a green ammonia facility at Gibson Island, Brisbane, through construction of a hydrogen production facility and refurbishment of an existing gas-based ammonia production facility, owned and operated by others.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Water and Wastewater Lead has accountability for design and construction delivery assurance of the water supply, water treatment, wastewater treatment wastewater discharge and hydrology/surface water management, ensuring the work undertaken by the contractor or vendor meets the project expectations on safety, quality and technical compliance.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing advice and information to the Project team on water resource issues that influence design, construction, and maintenance, of engineered structures including water supply assessments, water balance modelling, water quality and wastewater assessments and other related water management studies.
- Risk assessment of water management and related natural hazards.
- Review of water quality (including sampling and testing programmes) and supply studies.
- Managing and liaising with a range of project stakeholders including construction engineers, consultants, utility providers and authorities.
- Assist in preparation of construction plans, specifications and cost estimates including material quantity calculations.
- Collaborating with consultants and reviewing water management plans, water management systems and water balance models.
- Provide analysis of options for, and participate in the design of, water treatment processes, wastewater handling, management, treatment and discharge/disposal.
- Prepare technical documents summarizing recommendations and work performed to a high standard.
- Keep abreast of current water and wastewater technology and provide high technical expertise and innovation in design and procurement of the Project.
- Contractor and vendor liaison during feasibility, detailed design, execution and construction phases.
- Ensure approval requirements are appropriately incorporated into the design.
- Achieve and maintain effective communication with the project delivery team, and other internal and external stakeholders at all times.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental or Civil Engineering)
- Licensed Professional Engineer incl RPEQ
- 10+ years’ experience in water engineering design from feasibility studies, engineering, construction and commissioning.
- Detailed knowledge of chemical water treatment and wastewater treatment to participate in design development and review.
- Demonstrated experience in water quality management and water quality processing
- Experience with water balance modelling, mass balances, equipment selection and sizing, water system planning and infrastructure design.
- Experience in hydrological assessments, stormwater management and discharge is highly desirable.
- Experience in hydrogen production facilities preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
- A strong capability in adapting to multidisciplinary requirements in particular communicating a range of water treatment concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong data management and manipulation skills, with excellent computer literacy skills
- Ability to problem-solve effectively.
