Job Description:

This is an intermediate professional level role that designs and supports relational database management systems (RDBMS) of low complexity and assists in the design and support of DBMS of medium complexity under direct supervision. The Application Database Administrator’s role is to design, monitor, maintain, and application performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability and security.

Essential Functions:

Provides expertise for the design and development of RDBMS solutions and applications for UF Research. The individual should be comfortable and proficient in various database technologies. Experience in design and integration with client and web applications is preferred as this position will be involved in designing database solutions for custom applications, integrations, ETLs and metrics.

Analyzes data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schema(s), and then designs, develops, amends, optimizes, and certifies database schema design to meet system(s) requirements.

Gathers, analyzes, and normalizes relevant information related to, and from business processes, functions, and operations to evaluate data credibility and determine relevance and meaning.

Assists in the development and design of database and warehouse applications across multiple platforms and computing environments.

Assists in the development of an overall data architecture that supports the information needs of the business in a flexible but secure environment.

Oversees the definition of database scope and objectives based on user/developer needs. Prepares detailed specifications for implementation.

Provides feasibility assessments, technical solutions, authors code, troubleshoots applications, maintains installed systems, produces and maintains documentation.

Provides estimates of the analysis and development effort based on requirements
Recommends development of new code or reuse/enhancement of existing code.

Participates or leads in component and architecture design, performance monitoring, product evaluation.

The position will participate in the design, development, testing and deployment of automated systems and other tools to improve quality and productivity of the research enterprise.

Understands industry and IT best practices, develops and fosters the use of systems standards and processes across the organization.

Develop technical documentation (designs, specifications, processes) and communications.

Prepares and implements data verification and testing methods for the data warehouse and reporting.

Performs data warehouse design and construction. Codes and documents scripts and reports.

The position will be responsible for developing database structures and services that will support business analytics, customized queries and reports that facilitate business operations,

The position will participate in short-range planning and provide input to long-range planning regarding emerging data and systems issues.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience in RDBMS systems and application interfaces.

Analyzes data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schema(s), and then designs, develops, amends, optimizes, and certifies database schema design to meet system(s) requirements.

Gathers, analyzes, and normalizes relevant information related to, and from business processes, functions, and operations to evaluate data credibility and determine relevance and meaning.

Assists in the development and design of database and warehouse applications across multiple platforms and computing environments.

Assists in the development of an overall data architecture that supports the information needs of the business in a flexible but secure environment.

Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

Experience with SQL Server Management Studio, Power BI, Visual Studio, Microsoft Excel, and Active Directory

Demonstrated experience with .NET, ASP, Web API, SQL, DAX, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other object-oriented languages.

Experience with UI development, GIT, JavaScript libraries is beneficial in understanding the relationships between database solutions and application development. The successful candidate should have the desire and ability to learn additional technologies as projects demand. The candidate must be highly analytical, demonstrate problem-solving skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively. The successful applicant will demonstrate an independent work initiative and team based leadership; excellent communication skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, diplomacy and a professional demeanor.
