Job Description:

About the Role and Team:

The Department of Health are seeking applicants for the role of Registrar - Emergency Medicine to work at the North West Regional Hospital.

The North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) is a modern facility that provides acute care facilities for residents of the North West region of Tasmania. It is a University Teaching Hospital for the Rural Clinical School of the University of Tasmania.

The NWRH Emergency Department has an annual attendance rate of 28,000 patients per year with 28% admission rate. The Department treats a broad range of patients including major trauma cases. It is the referral centre for several district hospitals including King Island.

There are currently 9 Fellows (8.3FTE) of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM’s) working alongside other senior clinical staff. There are 8 Registrar positions available for training in Emergency Medicine; in addition, we offer two positions with a split of ED and Anaesthetics at the NWRH. The level of FACEM direct supervision and teaching is excellent.

The NWRH is an Emergency Medicine education and training hub for the North and North West of Tasmania and there is opportunity to complete the emergency medicine certificate and diploma at this hospital.

There is an opportunity for trainees that have completed their fellowship exams but are needing further ED time to be rostered on the consultant roster with supervision to ease their way into consultant practice. This has been a successful term. No nights rostered and clinical support time provided.

The NWRH Emergency Department is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for twelve months advanced training in Emergency Medicine with paediatric logbook. The ED is proud of its success in guiding candidates through the primary and fellowship examination. The hospital also has other accredited teaching programs including medicine, intensive care, surgery, palliative care, anaesthetics, obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics.
