Senior Mining Engineer - Life of Mine Planning
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
We are seeking a highly motivated mining professional to join our Strategic Mine Planning team. Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer Life of Mine Planning, this role is primarily responsible for maintaining and updating the integrated Life of Mine Planning based on the business strategy. This role interacts with multiple stakeholders including exploration, resource estimation, approvals, technical marketing and 5-year planning team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain LOM inventory by running pit optimisation or direct block scheduling method
- Support the development of the LOM optimisation model
- Participate in the documentation of modifying factors to support both LOM and Reserves Reporting
- Undertake LOM scenarios to evaluate any possible different business strategy
- Support the delivery of LOM results as guidance for 5-year planning, studies and other relevant parties
- Endeavour to improve current LOM planning and design process with new technology and innovation
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or similar with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
- Knowledge in open pit mining preferably within iron ore
- Experience in LOM scheduling and pit optimisation process
- Experience with JORC Ore Reserve reporting process will be advantageous
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills and be a team player with a strong desire to provide high quality work
- Experience with mine planning software packages (Minemax, Alastri products, Whittle is highly regarded)
- Experience with CAD or Design tools (Vulcan, ArcGIS, Surpac, Deswik is highly regarded)
- Experience with data analytic tools Tableau or Power BI
