Laboratory Coordinator
Work Location: Christmas Creek - Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Coordinator to join the site-based Operations Planning team. This permanent position is offered on a family friendly 8/6 dayshift only roster. With several works being completed at the Laboratory this year, your focus will be to enable the Laboratory team to complete high-quality sample analysis by coordinating operational and maintenance activities. You will lead by example, ensuring all works are completed safely in line with the Fortescue Values.
Key responsibilities include:
- Adhere to Fortescue’s vision and values
- Build the operational foundation of the Laboratory by writing Safe Work Instructions that enable team members, not overwhelm them
- Drive a strong team focus on safety, ensuring all hazards and field leaderships are uploaded into Fortescue’s Business Management System
- Coordinate all operational, maintenance (internal and external) and improvement activities, ensuring any risk to sample quality or turn-around-time is clearly communicated to the wide Operations Planning team
- Accountable for Laboratory spending, working through deviations from forecast with the Superintendent Technical Services and highlighting risks to the next forecast
- Mentor the team in best Laboratory Analysis practices, with a focus on the importance of eliminating sample bias and the effects of it on the Mine-to-Port supply chain
- Mentor the Laboratory Supervisors in effective team leadership and management of personnel. This includes creating achievable development plans for team members
- Review the Laboratory teams training matrix, ensuring the team is cross-skilled to maintain continuous operations when planned/unplanned leave occurs
Qualifications and Experience:
- 2-4 years’ experience in Laboratories analysing Iron Ore samples, including both manual and automated processing
- Demonstrated experience leading a large team of laboratory supervisors and technicians
- Able to effectively communicate laboratory operations to non-technical teams
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel
- Current Radiation Safety License from the WA Radiological Council
- Demonstrated experience with Panalytical XRF analysers and their SuperQ application
- Demonstrated experience in Prepmaster and ControlTrack Maintenance applications
- Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (or equivalent) is desirable
- Previous experience with SAP systems is desirable
