Job Description:
The Department of Health is seeking interest from a suitably qualified applicants for Staff Specialist (Paediatrics) vacancy.
The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State’s tertiary referral centre and is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The Department of Women’s, Adolescent and Children’s Services has Staff Specialists with a range of clinical, teaching and research interests and experience. This is a supportive, coherent and highly functioning team which is motivated to meet the service needs of our community.
Salary
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Classification
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
- Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.

Period of Employment
Fixed term full-time day work (with on-call), working up to 76 hours per fortnight*, commencing 26 June 2023 until 19 February 2024.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant/s

Location
Paediatrics, Royal Hobart Hospital
Primary Purpose
Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to paediatric and adolescent patients and their families in an inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory setting.
Promote and participate in research in one of the research focus areas of the Tasmania School of Medicine and Department of Paediatrics.
Actively pursue improved outcomes for paediatric and adolescent patients by participating in:
- Post graduate teaching
- Audit and Evaluation
An honorary clinical appointment with the University of Tasmania School of Medicine is negotiable.
Duties
- Provide services to Acute General Paediatrics including diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning for child and adolescent inpatients including emergency presentations at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
- Conduct outpatient clinics to provide continuity of care for discharged and long term patients.
- Undertake research in areas relevant to child and adolescent care.
- Participate in out of hours on call roster for the general paediatric inpatient service.
- Participate in supervision and teaching of junior medical staff and medical students in the Department of Paediatrics.
- Participate in such Hospital Committees and administrative matters as required.
Essential Requirements
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
