Workshop Operations Supervisor
Work location: Balcatta, Perth
Roster: Monday to Friday
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Iron projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to produce green iron.
Based out of our new Balcatta R&D facility and reporting to the Project delivery manager, we are presently looking for an experienced Supervisor to supervise the construction and operation of a R&D prototype, supervise daily activities including delivering prestart for all team members and supervise all activities to maintain a safe workshop environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Delivering a safe working environment to ensure safe execution of all Green Iron Projects.
- Promoting, coaching and mentoring personnel to engage in our safety systems and procedures
- Ensure all activities undertaken are carried out in accordance with company safety policy and procedures
- Managing a small team of fabricator, fitter, electricians and TA
- Management of external contractors
- Liaising with the Planning team to execute custom fabrication work
- Ensuring execution work is well documented through SAP
- Maintenance and operation of specialised equipment and operation and testing of fabricated prototypes.
- Sourcing, purchasing materials and equipment to execute works
- Supervision of all aspects of daily duties in the workshop area
- Inventory management including materials handling, receiving and receipting deliveries, housekeeping of workshop storage areas.
- Coordinate equipment in the facility with supplier, ensure they all satisfy all relevant standards and are used within the relevant FFI procedures.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Significant experience in a supervisor role, or similar leadership position with a focus on project delivery
- Experience with Chemical Plant operation ideal but not essential
- Relevant Trade Certificate
- A demonstrated commitment to safety
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Experience with custom fabrication work highly regarded
- Experience with fabrication, assembly and testing of prototype equipment/devices is preferable
- Experience in commissioning support functions preferable
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to change in a dynamic environment
- SAP, BMS, Excel and Word computer skills
- Ability in interact interpersonally at all levels in the organisation
- Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Understanding of SAP work management processes
- Understanding of Lean principles (5S, Visual Management, waste)
- Experienced in supervising teams across multiple work fronts
- Experienced in people management and people development
- Experienced in developing and leading a high level of safety leadership culture
- Experience working with safety management system
