The Role:

We are seeking motivated and experienced Registered Nurses for the Emergency Department at the North West Regional Hospital. We are looking for passionate nurses who deliver the greatest quality of care and will collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. It is expected that within the dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to a strong professional team approach through open communication and a positive supportive environment.

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you will contribute to the health outcomes of your patients through excellence in practice, fostering a learning culture, excellent communication skills and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

The Team:

The ED at the North West Regional Hospital consists of 17 acute clinical spaces with an additional 6 fast track spaces and a 4 bedded EMU. The department has 2 fully equipped Resus bays, a purpose-built mental health assessment area, a negative pressure isolation room as well as 4 negative flow single rooms. The ED is the referral hospital for the North West of Tasmania.

The Emergency Department has an annual attendance rate of approx. 29,000 patients per year. Approximately 30% of these patients are admitted for further treatment and care. The Department treats a broad range of patients including major trauma cases. The ED is supported by a wide range of specialties and generally only refers a small number of patients out of the region.

The ED offers its nursing staff a comprehensive education programme supported by a specialised education team. We also off a 6 month Emergency Department Transition Program (EDTP) for those nurses who are new to ED. The aim of the program is to provide a supported, high quality, relevant, fast-track program, that gives staff the tools to work at a competent level within an Emergency Department. On successful completion of all components of the EDTP, those staff who enrol or are enrolled in the University of Tasmania Graduate Certificate of Emergency Nursing, can apply to UTAS for one unit of credit (there are 4 units in the post-graduate certificate).

Details of Appointment

Multiple permanent, full time and part time, shift work, positions working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible

Salary:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Base Salary: $69,835- $96,428 pro rata per annum + 10.5% superannuation

  1. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    1. crimes of violence
    2. sex related offences
    3. serious drug offences
    4. crimes involving dishonesty

  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
