Salary: £41,307 - £54,556 depending on skills and experience

Working Pattern: Full Time | Permanent with flexible working options available

About the Department

SSEN owns two Distribution Network Operators (DNO): Southern Electric Power Distribution and Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution. SSEN is actively progressing the transition for each DNO to perform the role of Distribution System Operator (DSO). In the move to low carbon technology and maximum choice and flexibility for system users and customers, the success of this transition is critical to the future of the business.

Within DSO, we have several different departments which include System and Network Planning, Pricing and Forecasting, Operational Technology and our Control Rooms (North & South).

What is the Role?

An opportunity has arisen for a Distribution System Operator (DSO) Network Planning Engineer to join our team. As a DSO Network Planning Engineer you will identify project opportunities and specify the works required to optimise network performance as part of our load reinforcement investment plan. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing customer demand connection requests on the 11kV network. As a DSO Network Planning Engineer you'll confirm network compliance with relative engineering standards and ensure that all connection offers deliver the most efficient, co-ordinated and economic solution for the new customer connecting to the SSEN network.

What do I need?

To succeed in this role, you'll be qualified to a minimum HNC level in Electrical Engineering, have detailed knowledge of distribution networks, be commercially aware, have a passion for solving problems by developing cost efficient solutions and an ability to drive business strategies. You’ll also need to be a confident communicator with the ability to produce reasoned justifications in structured written reports and be comfortable organising, planning and prioritising your workload to achieve demanding targets and deadlines. Experience using network modelling software packages such as SinCal and/or PSSe would be advantageous.
