Salary:£46,319 - £61,175 depending on skills and experience

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time - 37 Hours Per Week | Flexible Working Patterns Available

About the Department

SSEN owns two Distribution Network Operators (DNO): Southern Electric Power Distribution and Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution. SSEN is actively progressing the transition for each DNO to perform the role of Distribution System Operator (DSO). In the move to low carbon technology and maximum choice and flexibility for system users and customers, the success of this transition is critical to the future of the business.

What is the Role?

Using your commercial awareness, you’ll provide the business with technical expertise regarding network asset investment, network flexibility and smart solutions, cost benefit analysis to ensure network compliance and to ensure investment decision making is neutral, independent and transparent. You’ll assess all economically viable solutions and make recommendations for the most efficient network intervention to meet the current and future requirements of our network.

Your technical experience will be invaluable as you manage technical and financial assessments, collection and interpretation of large volumes of complex network and costs data, and present this in an easily digestible format for internal and external stakeholders and regulators, including OFGEM.

For Connections & Diversion customer enquiries on reinforcement decisions, you’ll provide technical expertise at meetings with large commercial and industrial clients and consult to resolve complaints and drive improvements.

You’ll also develop and maintain our internal planning standards and confidently represent SSEN as a technical expert at UK-wide industry forums and working parties, contributing to the development of new/revised Engineering Recommendations and Engineering Technical Reports.

What do I need?

You’ll be degree qualified or have equivalent experience and essential to this role is the ability to demonstrate the following skills:

• A technical understanding of distribution networks, conventional asset investment and flexibility/smart solutions

• The ability to carry out complex cost benefit modelling

• Experience of embedding and promoting a safety culture

• Financial management and commercial awareness

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external

• Coding / Scripting experience is desirable however, not essential
