Job Description:

The Counseling & Wellness Center is currently inviting applicants for a Clinical Case Manager. Under the general direction of the Counseling and Wellness Center Director, this position requires a variety of skills involving case management, counseling, outreach, and consultation. The majority of the Case Manager’s time is allotted to maintain and monitor a clinical case management system to provide continuity of care for clients. Case management may include meeting with clients who are in need of brief counseling interventions, intensive outpatient or inpatient mental health services, hospital visits, obtaining external referral services for students, maintaining database of community providers, treatment planning, and coordination of care, including follow up communication and/or meetings with clients or community providers. This position requires excellence in clinical case management service delivery as well as crisis and emergency intervention. This position is clinical in nature and hours may count towards licensure for registered interns in mental health counseling and marriage and family therapy. Duties also include occasional workday and after-hours on-call consultation/crisis intervention and serving as a resource to various constituencies on campus in an effort to enhance student life.

The Case Manager handles the delicate task of contacting legal guardians of students and coordinating post hospitalization plans along with regular follow-up with external providers and other University of Florida stakeholders.

Some evenings and weekend hours are required. The Case Manager is expected to perform his/her duties conscientiously and responsibly; to adhere to high personal standards of behavior with students, colleagues, members of the University community and clients of the University; and in a manner consistent with the ethics of his/her own profession. The successful applicant is expected to keep himself/herself informed of current research and professional developments in his/her professional field.

Specific duties include:

Assisting students with social services needs including, but not limited to, referral to community resources and facilitating access to medical care (including coordination of hospitalizations and discharge planning). Following up to ensure that clients are appropriately assessed, successfully referred, and compliant with treatment recommendations.

Providing daytime and on-call crisis services.

Consulting with faculty, staff, students, and family members, who are concerned about a student. Initiating and developing ongoing liaison relationships with other university departments, community health providers, services, hospitals, and other resources.

Completing records punctually according to record keeping/report writing procedures that are currently operative at the Counseling and Wellness Center and required by legal and ethical regulations. Preparing and submitting all service reports or other communications involving the clinical operations of the CWC which are intended for persons, departments, or agencies outside of the CWC for review and approval of the Director or Associate Director.

Expected Salary:

$65,000; negotiable based on experience

Minimum Requirements: Must be a licensed mental health provider in the State of Florida or licensable as a mental health counselor in the State of Florida. Must have a master's degree in mental health counseling, guidance, psychology, or rehabilitation counseling at a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency approved by the United States Department of Education.

  1. Demonstrated expertise in clinical case management
  2. Administrative and computer application skills required to effectively implement and maintain a case management and tracking system
  3. Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical situations and to coordinate these efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  4. Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
  5. Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
  6. Demonstrated sensitivity to multicultural issues and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
  7. Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  9. Experience in college mental health, including crisis assessment, brief intervention, confidentiality requirements, and referral
