About the Role and Team

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest in Perinatal Mental Health to join us in North West Tasmania. The Consultant Psychiatrist will need to be an accredited RANZCP clinical supervisor to oversee the supervision of a trainee and work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health service team in delivering high quality mental health care in accordance with Mental Health Services principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies.

The role provides a service to the North West and Launceston region of Tasmania with a home base in Burnie, a small beachside city with a busy working port and good coffee. In contrast with the more well-known Hobart region, the North West experiences abundant sunshine affordable housing and land market with opportunities to live in city, beachside or rural locations.

The North West has the cleanest air in the world, fresh from the wild Southern Ocean, the North West is home to one of the last remaining wildernesses - the Tarkine – Australia’s largest rainforest. Our staff enjoy hiking the Cradle Mountain region, lake fishing in the Central Highlands and riding the West Coast mountain bike trails. When you’re craving for luxurious shopping, you can fly to Melbourne from Devonport in an hour or drive to the heritage city of Launceston in 90 minutes.

Details of Appointment

Fixed Term, full time, day worker (with on-call) position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible until June 2024

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary:

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

You will also have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. An interest in Perinatal Mental Health is highly desirable
