Senior Drill and Blast Engineer
Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.
Roster: 4:3/8:6 – FIFO ex Perth (Week 1: 4 days on, 3 days off, Week 2: 8 days on, 6 days off)
We are currently seeking highly motivated Senior Drill and Blast Engineer to join the Iron Bridge operations planning team. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this role is responsible for leading drill and blast engineers, optimal design and scheduling of safe and efficient drilling blasting activities and manage the supply of drilling and blasting consumables, products and services
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinate effective drill and blast plans being provided in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
- Audit and coordinate drill and blast plans are holistic, considering impacts to mining and processing
- Provide technical support and assistance those who have duties to risks relating to the use of explosives
- Provide analysis and reports of mining operations. This includes identification of improvement opportunities, performance reporting and conformance reporting.
- To be aware of and manage risk including blast damage
- Contribute to the ongoing performance and improvement of the Operations Planning team
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience as a mining engineer, with a Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or similar, with a practical approach to engineering and design problems, AND appropriate project management skills
- Demonstrated experience in a greenfields operation including design and implementation of systems of work, with a good understanding and demonstrated ability in risk management including investigation and safety through design
- Broad depth of knowledge and experience including geotech, mine geology (block models), and mineral processing, knowledge in open pit mining preferably in deep pit (hard rock / base metal operations) and ideally experience with Autonomous mining & fleet management systems
- Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Vulcan, blastlogic or similar) with strong analytical & data query skills with attention to detail; Experience with Tableau / Power BI/
- Team orientation and demonstrated ability to take initiative; Experience using collaborative platforms like SharePoint, Trello, Confluence etc. will be advantageous
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical detail to a variety of stakeholder
