About the Department

SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M&E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.

SSE Enterprise Contracting's street lighting team works with private and public sector organisations to deliver full turnkey lighting solutions. Maintaining over 1 million street lights, we are the largest provider in the UK and Ireland. Through design, project management, consultancy, long-term PFI partnerships, installation and maintenance services, we play a major role in reducing energy consumption and carbon through LED conversion.

What is the Role?

Reporting to the New Business Manager, you will develop cost models/plans, submit accurate estimates and manage bids for design and build projects. This will include street lighting as well as large and more complex major schemes, in Yorkshire and the Midlands. You'll analyse technical specification and design for contracts, ensuring that all client requirements are fully considered. Working with potential suppliers, you'll obtain materials/resource availability and pricing structures and arrange the enquiry documentation to ensure accuracy and competitiveness of estimates. Through prioritising and managing your work flow, you'll maintain accurate record of tenders submitted, ensuring estimates are carried out according to standards.

On larger project bids, you may co-ordinate and lead a team to ensure bid completion to schedule and standards

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you will have several years' experience as an Estimator. You'll have the ability to prepare 'Schedule of Rate', 'take off' quantities from drawings or bills of quantities and have a good understanding of technical drawings.

Prior experience of IDNO and DNO would be preferable as well as sound knowledge of Public/Community lighting and civils.

You'll be contractually aware and have good commercial acumen. With excellent communication skills, you will be able to further build on client relationships and use your initiative to progress the business. You'll be flexible in your approach and be able to work well on your own or as part of a team. Finally you'll be highly motivated to enable you to identify and recommend appropriate bid proposals that meet clients' needs as well as promote the company's interests.
