From 3 October 2022, Department of Education has joined with colleagues in the Department of Communities to form the Department for Education, Children and Young People.
This is a Department built entirely for children and young people and their communities. Our ultimate goal is to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Tasmania is known, safe, well and learning.
The child is at the centre of everything we do and the way we do it.
In the short term, you may still see references to Department of Communities and Department of Education as we transition. We are working together to build our strategy and our culture and values. This work will be continuing into 2023, and we want all staff to be involved in this.

Senior School Psychologist – Permanent flexible up to Full-Time
Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) Northern Region

Psychologists working with DECYP play a key role shaping the future for young Tasmanians.
About the role
You will lead a team of school psychologists providing a child and adolescent psychological service which supports students and families. You and your team will build capacity in school communities to improve students’ access, participation and achievement. You will draw on your expertise and experience to provide clinical supervision, mentoring and support to your team.
Period of Appointment: Ongoing - ASAP start date
Hours per fortnight: Up to 76 hours per fortnight
Salary: $125,507 (per annum) + 10.5% Superannuation
Relocation assistance: Incentives including relocation and accommodation where applicable.

Essential Requirements
- Qualifications as established by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission in the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award
- General registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Approval from the Psychology Board of Australia as a Board-approved supervisor
- The Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013 requires persons undertaking work in a regulated activity to be registered. A regulated activity is a child related service or activity defined in the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Regulations 2014. This registration must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of this may be checked at any time during employment.
- Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status - Employment).
Desirable Requirements
- Australian Psychological Society membership
- Eligibility for Teacher Registration in Tasmania
- A current driver's licence.
