Principal Engineering Geologist/Geotechnical Engineer
Work location: Perth
Roster: Monday to Friday
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support across a broad portfolio of major developments including international green hydrogen projects and decarbonisation of Fortescue mines. Project experience in one or more of the following is essential; Renewable energy, large Civils Infrastructure, Mining, Ports/Near-shore. The opportunity for team leadership will be available for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of talented professionals working on a portfolio of Australian and International projects.
- Provide technical direction and advice to multi-disciplinary teams on hydro, wind, solar and geothermal green hydrogen and decarbonisation projects.
- Assess geohazards and manage ground engineering risk throughout the project life cycle from inception, through design and into construction.
- Support the development of technical and feasibility studies and define risk mitigation solutions for the company’s assets.
- Geological, engineering geological and geomorphological mapping including borrow sources for a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects.
- Aerial photographic interpretation, terrain evaluation and landslide risk assessments.
- Scoping and management of geotechnical site investigations on large complex projects, including interpretation of results, derivation of ground models and assignment of parameters.
- Coordinate and manage specialist sub-consultants and contractors to formulate technical studies and execute ground investigations.
- Liaise with a range of key internal and external stakeholders on geological and geotechnical aspects of projects.
- Embrace FFI’s values and proactively deliver on the company’s stretch targets.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Prior experience in a similar role (consultant or client owner) preferably in the renewable energy sector or on large complex infrastructure and mining projects. Western Australia and International experience highly regarded.
- Minimum Bachelors Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering. Masters Degree highly regarded.
- Significant postgraduate experience in providing technical advice to multi-disciplinary project teams.
- The ability to shape team workflow and influence technical direction.
- A solid background in engineering geology and geotechnical engineering that covers desk-top studies, fieldwork assignments, preparation of technical reports and construction support services.
- A critical appreciation of the geotechnical risk assessment and management process, including communication of risk to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment in collaboration with other like-minded team members and adjacent projects teams.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel for short periods.
- Knowledge of seismic codes and seismic hazard assessments an advantage.
