Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Studies
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
Fortescue is currently seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with experience in geotechnical design and studies. Reporting to the Manager – Geotechnical Engineering & Closure you will draw upon your experience to deliver geotechnical guidance to the studies team and facilitate safe and value adding design.
You will also be responsible for implementing best practice mining geotechnical engineering in alignment with regulatory and industry guidelines. The role will operate across a range of mine planning and development horizons including exploration and development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Definition, planning, budgeting, and execution of geotechnical work programs to support the studies team with the design of open pits and waste rock dumps
- Ensure accurate and timely geotechnical diamond core logging data collection, validation, interpretation, and storage
- Manage delivery of geotechnical studies and designs, including reporting for approvals and regulatory commitments
- Opportunity to lead or undertake geotechnical modelling analysis and reporting
- Assessing and communicating geotechnical risk in geotechnical recommendations
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with other business units and external parties, contribute to knowledge building and awareness, influence decision making regarding geotechnical systems
Qualifications and Experience:
- A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, Engineering geology, or similar is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in mining geotechnical engineering
- Experience in a range of geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological settings and across multiple commodities
- Excellent communication and report writing skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders
- Strong team skills and willingness to travel for short periods
