About the Role and Team
As a member of the Statewide Mental Health Service (SMHS) Executive team, the Statewide Specialty Director - Older Persons Mental Health Services (OPMHS) in conjunction with the Group Director - OPMHS, has responsibility and accountability for the statewide delivery of OPMHS. This involves a combination of working as a practising clinician and providing clinical and strategic leadership and direction to the group services in relation to:
- The provision of high standard, consumer focused and cost-effective clinical services to the Tasmanian community in accordance with SMHS, Department of Health (DoH) and Tasmanian government policies and priorities.
- Meeting performance targets and responding to population needs in the context of developing better patient access and better patient outcomes.
- Service integration and collaboration and service development.
- Compliance with legislation.
Older Persons Mental Health Service Reform Program
The successful applicant will play a key role in the progression of the Older Persons Mental Health Reform Program in providing clinical governance oversight, leadership, experience and guidance in the development of key operational service models for the service to build a contemporary Older Persons Mental Health Service in Tasmania.
Details of Appointment
Permanent, full time, day worker (with on-call) position working 76 hours per fortnight.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant
- Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.
Salary:
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
You will also have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
- Salary range is in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners Agreement 2019
Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

Experience working in Old Age psychiatry
-
Membership of RANZCP section of Old Age psychiatry
-
Ability to gain recognition by the RANZCP as an accredited supervisor

Current Driver’s Licence
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
- Conviction checks in the following areas:
- Crimes of violence
- sex related offences
- serious drug offences
- crimes involving dishonesty
- Identification check
- Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
