Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)
Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet
Based out our new Hazelmere R&D facility, we are presently looking for Senior Project Engineer who will be responsible to lead the Project Lead Engineer team for HME, this team assists the Project Managers and the Senior Project Manager in the management and execution of the project
Key accountabilities will include:
Project Management
- Assist Project Manager with the safe delivery of project on schedule, to budget and to specification
- Stakeholder management of internal and external stakeholders which include internal FFI personal, contractors, consultants, and the broader Fortescue family
- Drive schedule improvements to reduce delivery timeframes safely
- Deliver cost and capital effective solutions to improve the project’s capital intensity whilst delivering the projects scope on time and within budget safely
- Provide effective and strategic reporting and communications of project performance on a regular basis
- Providing regular updates to the Senior Project Manager.
- Provide project and cost analysis in line with project scope.
- Monitor budget expenditure, forecasting, and program schedule.
- Stakeholder management and consultation within the project team.
- Facilitate the development of risk mitigation strategies with SME’s.
- Review design documentation, contracts and management plans to ensure all service provider contract requirements are met.
- Create linkages with internal and external relevant engineering experts that are assisting with project direction.
Technical
- Providing the Engineering department with the technical needs (KPIs & Criteria) and working closely to provide solutions to the project’s technical challenges
- Provide engineering project context and information to engineers assigned to the team.
- Provide technical expertise, alternative design solutions and potentially associated risks.
- Manage consultation interface within the engineering team and associated stakeholders by ensuring accountability and performance.
- Bring technical teams together to review designs for signoff.
- Monitor design teams to meet schedules.
- Drive a holistic engineering focus to the project, ensuring that the individual engineering solutions are aligned and compatible.
Processes & Documentation

- Document engineering project context and information provide and received from engineers’ teams.
- Ensure that project Engineering history and decisions are recorded and available throughout the project.
- Ensure document control processes are followed.
- Drive engineering teams on IP potential opportunities and threats.
- Be the gateway for IP for the projects.
- Drive the documentation to support R&D tax credit information.
- Supporting the application/development of relevant FFI products in project solutions.
- Lead and control Change management / design decision logs documentation.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Be degree qualified in Engineering (Electrical/Mechatronics highly advantageous)
- Project experience including the delivery of complex and multi discipline projects
- Experience leading teams is essential
- Experience managing multiple contractor groups
- Experience with project budgeting and cost control
- HME experience highly regarded
- OEM/Manufacturing experience highly regarded
- Ability to successfully engage internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to read and interrupt electrical schematics
- High commitment to safety and good knowledge of HAZOP
- Excellent interpersonal awareness with ability to lead and motivate teams
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive for excellence
- Results driven, responsible and accountable
- Ability to manage under pressure and adapt quickly to change
- Great problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
