Job Description:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for Registrar - Neurosurgery vacancies.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.

The Tasmanian Neurosurgical Unit is a Statewide Service receiving elective and emergency Neurosurgery and Neurology patients and treats a wide range of Neurological and Neurosurgical conditions including Cranial and Spinal Trauma, Tumours, Vascular, Paediatric and Complex Spine.


$97,946 - $138,593 per annum


Medical Practitioner Level 5-11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar)


Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

Period of Employment

Fixed term full time day work (with on-call) working 80 hours per fortnight commencing 6 February 2023 – 5 February 2024 (Please note 24 months negotiable).

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital as determined by the relevant work unit.

Essential Requirements

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
