Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is searching to identify two multi track Medical Director & Associate/Full Professors for the UF Veterinary Hospital (UFVH). One for the Small Animal Hospital (SAH) and one for the Large Animal Hospital (LAH). The Medical Director provides oversight of clinicians (faculty and house officers) in providing veterinary care in the UFVH consistent with the mission of the college and university. Those activities for which the MD will have primary or shared responsibility include:

  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees the day-to-day services and associated clinical operations for a given area of responsibility; oversees activities of clinicians (faculty and house officers).
  • Provides direct advice to the Associate Dean of Clinical Services (ADCS – SA/LA) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) regarding issues related to the implementation and evaluation of clinical services, policies, and clinical personnel concerns.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives/projects.
  • Participates in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, objectives, standards of care, and procedural protocols.
  • Participate in planning for professional development, communication, and educational programs for clinicians and house officers.
  • Focusing on intrahospital and rDVM communications.
  • Address patient quality/safety issues raised by clinicians, technicians, clients, support staff, CVM administration, and regulatory bodies. Assist in oversight of specific programs for the given area of responsibility, such as small animal or large animal infection control, house officer programs, or patient safety and quality programs.
  • Manages a sub-section of Service Chiefs (Subsection split: SA and LA subsections). Encourage regular meetings with sub-sections. Proxy for CMO as needed.
  • Attending bi-annual rDVM Advisory Board Meetings.
  • Assure compliance with federal/state veterinary practice regulations and college and University of Florida policies.

This position will report to the department chair for their faculty assignment (50% SACS/CDPM; 75% LACS) and the CMO for the MD assignment of 50% SAH; 25% LAH). The department chair and CMO will work together to determine the specific administrative FTE for this position. The department chair completes the annual evaluation with input from the CMO on the performance of the administrative duties.

Expected Salary:

Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience of the successful candidate.

Minimum Requirements:

DVM, VMD, or equivalent foreign veterinary degree plus at least three years of clinical experience; active clinician in the UFVH. At the rank of Associate Professor or higher (clinical or tenure track).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing veterinary hospital clinical staff in an academic/private setting. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise professional employees.
