Job Description:

Classification Title:

Systems Admin/Programmer IV

Job Description:

The University of Florida Research Computing, home of HiPerGator and HiPerGator-AI supercomputers and ResVault system for regulated data, facilitates large-scale computation and data management for cutting-edge research in a wide variety of research domains at a top-5 public university. The demand for the ability to carry out research on regulated data is growing as do issues with meeting complex compliance requirements. Effective use of the powerful ResVault system for regulated data by researchers also requires extensive training and support. We are seeking people who are looking for an exciting career in supporting the research by world-class faculty and their students and collaborators in their quest to solve some of the most important problems facing the world. If you like to solve problems, help enable scientific progress, help people learn to use complex systems, and make them smile because you helped improve their day, this position is for you.

Employment with UFIT Research Computing provides an excellent opportunity to join a team dedicated and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspiring research community and work in a fulfilling and constructive environment.

Research teams come to UFIT Research Computing with datasets, questions, and requests for application installation or support. The requests come from scientists who are deeply versed in their fields of research but are often formulated in general terms, and satisfying them requires going through a process of discovery and good communication. This position will help the researchers navigate the compliance requirements, such as mandatory training, in collaboration with the team in the Office of Research. This position will help researchers learn the technical hardware and software capabilities of ResVault, help design workflows, manage data, troubleshoot issues, and address questions arising in the course of large-scale computation in a regulated data-compliant computing environment. These activities often require developing some familiarity with particular domains of research, so research computing staff members are constantly learning about new subjects, methods, and tools.

No prior knowledge of the ResVault system is required as in depth training will be included in the onboarding process of the position.

Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:

● Explore, install, test, document, and support software applications libraries, reference data, databases, and services for research, engineering, and teaching in the ResVault environment.

● Windows/Linux server (including virtual machines) familiarity with application installation and troubleshooting experience.

● Work with researchers to define use cases and specify features to be developed and implemented on ResVault.

● Ability to communicate effectively with a non-technical audience.

● Provide onboarding, training, support, and consulting services to researchers using ResVault.

● Contribute to the user documentation, policies and procedures for ResVault to meet the compliance requirements.

● Perform review of ResVault logs as specified by the monitoring compliance requirements.

● Carry out the incident response activities as part of the UF incident response team when a compliance breach event occurs.
