Job Description:

The Team:

The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist - General Medicine vacancy. The General Medical team is a dynamic team who provide the clinical care for the largest cohort of unscheduled care in the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Role:

  1. Patient Care:
    • Provide Consultant Service to inpatients and admit patients under their care.
    • Conduct or direct outpatient clinics in General Medicine.
    • Participate in quality assurance programs within Department of General Medicine.
  2. Teaching:
    • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate specialist trainee teaching.
    • Liaise with the University of Tasmania, Department of Medicine and the RACP in respect to the teaching of undergraduates and Registrars.
  3. Research:
    • Have an understanding of medical research.
  4. Management:$1$1
    • Responsible to the Head of General Medicine Department.
    • Liaison with the University of Tasmania’s Department of Medicine on issues relating to undergraduate teaching and research.
  5. The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Details of Appointment:

Multiple Fixed term positions working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing ASAP for a period of up to 12 Months.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant



Base Salary: Base Salary: $163,005 - $247,748 per annum + 10.5% superannuation

The remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, plus additional relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019.
