Job Description:

METHOD EVALUATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Evaluate analytical methods and modify them as necessary to achieve acceptable method performance. Train current laboratory personnel on the application of the validated methods.
Optimize analytical instrument parameters to achieve acceptable, reliable performance.
Validate method used for sample analysis.
Review literature for changes/improvements in preparative/analytical procedures.

EXTRACTION AND ANALYSIS OF RESIDUE SAMPLES
Complete extraction and preparation of residue samples for analysis using validated methods.
Analyze samples predominantly using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and occasionally using gas chromatography (GC) and with various detection systems, primarily triple quadrupole or Orbitrap mass spectrometry.
Perform and document activities in compliance with EPA’s Good Laboratory Practices and laboratory standard operating procedures.
Familiarity with standard laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures are necessary to complete the above job duties.

DATA REVIEW AND REPORT PREPARATION
Operate computer-based automated data collection systems for data acquisition, processing, and quantitation.
Review data and write summary reports.

GENERAL DUTIES
Prepare standard solutions and reagents required for analysis.
Conduct routine instrument cleaning, maintenance, and basic instrument troubleshooting.
General lab maintenance and cleaning.
Participate in required training activities.
Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

$52,000 - $84,000; Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with sample preparation techniques. Experience in the optimization, use and maintenance of LC/MS/MS instrumentation. Experience in modifying sample preparation to achieve acceptable results in various crop commodities. Experience working in a regulatory environment.
