Job Description:
Geospatial data management and analysis
  • development and daily execution/monitoring of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) jobs, procedures and data distributions using SFTP
  • consulting and education of team members with respect to geographic and coordinate reference systems and their use in map-based applications
  • development, monitoring and troubleshooting of batch and interactive geocoding processes for location-based roadway incidents
  • evaluation of location accuracy with respect to the Florida All Roads Base Map
Application development
  • Development of applications with specific focus on server-side Web API and REST services
  • SQL development
  • database performance tuning
  • fulfillment of custom data requests

GIS database design

  • logical and physical relational database design to include table design
  • partitioning and indexing strategies with emphasis on spatial indexing
  • increase overall team expertise in geographic and coordinate reference system transformations
  • work in close coordination with the Principal Investigator to conduct research to expand the transportation geospatial and attribute data and their applications in urban and transportation planning
  • review and analysis of analytical tools in related transportation planning and built environment areas
  • apply machine learning to analyze and determine crash types and other applications of machine learning to improve transportation data

This position must be able to work independently, under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, and in collaboration with application developers, other staff members, and affiliated researchers.

Coordinate with supervisor on all policy making decisions and procedures.

Communicate regularly with faculty, researchers, and stakeholders.

Expected to bring individual knowledge and creativity to enhance the research team.

Comply with all financial policies and guidelines as determined by sponsors, department and UF.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 hours/day, anytime between 7:00am and 6:00pm. Some travel may be required based on project needs. May be required to work outside this schedule as needed to keep applications functioning in case of emergencies and meet deadlines or other processing needs of the projects.

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and 2 years of relevant experience, or a Masters degree in an appropriate area and some experience through appropriate college coursework and/or work experience

Data Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience with the Traffic Crash Reports and Familiarity the Model Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria (MMUCC) standard.
  • Experience with HERE Map Data (Florida All Roads Base Map) and related DOT linear referencing systems (LRS) and roadway characteristics inventory (RCI) information and in performing geo-spatial tasks such as incident geocoding, reverse geocoding, spatial overlays, network tracing, intersection building
Skills and Experience
  • Experience working with roadway GIS data such as segments, nodes and intersections.
  • Knowledge of logical data modeling, relational database design, extract, transform and load (ETL) processes, and SQL performance tuning.
  • Familiar with Oracle 12c with Spatial (SDO_GEOMETRY, ST_GEOMETRY), or Microsoft SQL Server (Geometry).
  • Experience with Python, PL/SQL
  • Knowledge of C# and JavaScript
  • Experience with Oracle SQL*Net, SQL*Developer and DBA tools
  • Ability to create REST data services using JSON / XML serialization
