Job Description:

The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmania's largest hospital providing a full range of tertiary level services for the state. The Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases provides a comprehensive and integrated infectious diseases and clinical microbiology service for the RHH, and outreach services to the North West of the Tasmania. The Department is currently staffed by six staff specialist Infectious Diseases Physicians/ Microbiologists who supervise two Advanced Trainees (in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology) and a dedicated Resident Medical Officer rotated from the Basic Physician Training Scheme.

Dependent on the needs and wishes of the Department's two Advanced Trainees there may be an opportunity to gain up to six months of laboratory experience in microbiology, which is currently approved as Advanced Training by both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Pathologists.

This position is accredited for advanced training in Infectious Diseases and/ or Microbiology. It would also be suitable for trainees in General Medicine or other disciplines seeking an elective year in Infectious Diseases.

Applicants may apply for either 12 months of single training, or six months in both specialties.

Salary

$97,946 - $138,593 per annum

Fixed term, full time day work, 80 hours per fortnight, commencing 06 February 2023 – 05 February 2024 (24 months negotiable)

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as determined by the Medical Staffing Unit.

Essential Requirements

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
