Drill and Blast Engineer
Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.
Roster: 8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth, or ex Port Hedland is possible (Wednesday to Wednesday)
Role overview:
An exciting opportunity for an engineer or experienced D&B shotfirer/operator to join the newest magnetite operation in WA. The role is a rare opportunity to shape the development of a major project. Reporting to the Senior D&B Engineer, you will be involved all aspects of D&B engineering from designs, impact studies, analysis, explosives selection and QAQC.
The role requires interpersonal skills, problem solving and teamwork, whilst also being empowered to work autonomously to achieve project objectives. Within a team of 5, you will be responsible for all D&B engineering work for the site.
Key responsibilities include:
- To provide technical support and assistance relating to any aspect of the drill and blast activity at the site and design drill and blast patterns and tie-ins that are safe, and efficient and consider the impact in a holistic manner
- To mitigate and monitor ground vibrations to limit disturbance to Heritage areas and coordinate the ordering of blasting agents and explosives accessories in a timely manner
- To produce the drill and blast sequence to support achieving the mine plan
- Apply the principle of continuous improvement to minimize costs and improve downstream processes
- To generate and communicate progress reports to stakeholders
- To support the ongoing performance and improvement of the Operations Planning team
Education and Experience:
- Knowledge and experience of the use, application and performance of explosives is a pre-requisite
- Database management and scripting experience would be highly regarded
- Drill and blast design and planning experience is preferred but shotfirers and others involved directly in drill and blast operations should not be deterred from applying
- Experience using both shock-tube and electronic initiating systems
- Experience in hard rock surface mine operation
