The University of Florida, Large Animal Hospital is recruiting for a part-time OPS Large Animal Veterinary Technician to work, primarily, on-call for nights, weekends, and holidays with additional hours expected to cover staff leave. This is a position that requires a motivated, well-organized and caring individual with experience in treating and handling horses - but may include goats, pigs, alpacas, cattle, sheep, and llama patients.<\/p>

As a member of our nursing staff, working in a unit that is open 24\/7, you will perform medical treatments and procedures under the supervision of senior staff. Must live close to the vet school and have reliable transportation to arrive within 30 minutes of being called in when scheduled.<\/p>

Duties include but are not limited to:<\/p>

• Assists in patient medical evaluation and performs patient observations, monitoring, administers medications\/treatments and recording in the patient medical record. Collects, prepares, and submits lab samples, captures, and inputs fees for materials and services.<\/li>
• Assist professional staff in performing critical and intensive care or life-sustaining emergency care, diagnostic services, blood collection, and fluid administration as directed. Prepares rations to meet the dietary needs of hospitalized patients.<\/li>
• Maintains a supply inventory and replenishes stock within the assigned areas and will maintain a clean\/sanitary and organized clinical service area.<\/li>
• Assists with gathering and recording information, the management of after-hours admissions and discharges, visitor policies, and emergency call-ins.<\/li>
• Set up, clean, and ensure proper storage of equipment.
  Expected shifts are primarily 5 pm-7 am Monday thru Friday, and additionally, 7 am-7 pm on weekends and holidays. Expected to also cover staff on leave. Other hours may be required and scheduled for training, filling in alternate shifts, holidays, or on-call duty as needed. Paid training and uniforms provided.<\/li>
• The hourly base rate is $14.00\/hr. with additional on-call pay.<\/li><\/ul><\/td><\/tr>

Must have experience with horses to be considered.<\/p>

Must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds and be able to reach overhead, bend, kneel and squat for periods of time to restrain and treat patients<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

Experience as a Veterinary Technician.<\/p><\/td><\/tr>
