Job Description:

The Center for Safety, Simulation & Advanced Learning Technologies (CSSALT) is seeking an engineer with strong technical and research skills to join its simulation team.

Conducts research and design on simulators and simulation; designs simulators, medical devices, and processes for patient safety; evaluates current hardware and software capabilities. Designs and documents software and electrical and mechanical modifications to simulators and implements new simulator and educational applications. Improves/retrofits existing simulator hardware and software, including modularity and interchangeability upgrades. Helps prepare manuscripts and proposals.

Participates in the supervision of the simulator team, version control, and issue/project management. Learns and implements fundamental management techniques and technologies such as Agile, Iterative Development, Waterfall Development, SCRUM, Kanban, and Trello. Collaborates with an open-minded multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. Mentors volunteers and junior colleagues by providing feedback via code reviews, organizational methods, and team coding. Leads on-site and remote standup meetings and brainstorming sessions.

Responsible for working with university faculty to identify educational and research objectives, design conceptual simulation scenarios, and conduct simulation studies.

Maintains the hardware and software of UF-designed simulators, including routine maintenance, installation and documentation of upgrades, moving, and setup.

Assists investigators with simulator-related research studies including design, usability reviews, scoring algorithms, implementation, and data quality control.

Provides demonstrations of medical simulation to a range of visitors.

Expected Salary:$52,000 - $58,000
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Familiarity with server-side languages, such as Python, C#

Experience in integrating between third-party and in-house systems

Experience working with PHI data

Experience managing and mentoring in a group setting

Knowledge of setup and maintenance of mixed-reality interfaces and tracking devices
Skills in electronic and mechanical assembly
Skills in written and verbal communication
Ability to learn computer modeling, animation, and 3D graphics
Ability to work independently and on a team
Ability to plan, organize, and analyze data, including quality control
Ability to design and evaluate a simulation system (mannequin, display-based, or mixed simulation)
Ability to create and maintain webpages and databases; experience in computer programming, graphics, and multimedia would be a plus
