The College of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Biological Scientist to work in the research laboratory of Dr. Marco Salemi at the Emerging Pathogens Institute. This position is well suited for an individual who can work independently. This position will assist in investigating the molecular evolution of SIV in lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues during the course of the infection from SIV-infected rhesus monkeys using a single-cell DNA sequencing approach.<\/p>

Duties To Include:<\/strong><\/p>

• Using a general molecular biology background and independent decision making to perform experiments proficiently, as needed. Including, but not limited to, experimental sample organization, assisting in ordering, designing, modifying, planning and conducting research experiments in accordance with EHS safety standards.<\/li>
• Accurately measuring and making laboratory solutions as needed.<\/li>
• Responsible for maintenance of standard operating procedures, general laboratory cleanliness, and maintenance of laboratory instruments in compliance with laboratory inspections.<\/li>
• Nucleic acid extractions (such as DNA ad RNA extractions), cDNA synthesis, gel electrophoresis, PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, library preparation, quantification, and sequencing.<\/li>
• Assisting in the management of laboratory databases and updating protocols, as needed.<\/li>
• Organization and analysis of data for presentations and write-ups of experiments.<\/li><\/ul><\/td><\/tr>

Starting salary is between $17.00 - $18.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

Bachelor\u2019s degree in biology or a closely related life science field.<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

• Three years of technical experience in a laboratory setting, ability to follow instructions and ability to work with others.<\/li>
• Experience with next generation sequencing techniques (library preparation, running samples on Illumina platforms) are essential requisites for this position.<\/li>
• Positive attitude to work with a track record of working well with other lab members and performing all work in a safe manner.<\/li><\/ul><\/td><\/tr>
