Job Description:

Research plan and execution for major projects
In collaboration with clinical investigators and the PI, design and execute the appropriate analysis plan for the three projects. Project-1 (25%): microbiome determinants of adverse clinical outcomes; Project-2 (25%): prediction of mortality in alcoholic hepatitis patients; Project-3 (25%): prediction of post-transplant fibrosis in NAFLD patients.

Data Entry and Management
In collaboration with clinical investigators and the PI, perform data entry, data control and management for 3 major projects listed.

Paper writing
Perform biological and clinical interpretations of the results and write scientific papers.

Write reports, seek fellowship opportunities

Help write the annual reports for the funding agencies (e.g., NIH) for the corresponding projects. Seek career development opportunities, including fellowship applications.

Present the work in seminars, conferences, workshops

Attending conferences and workshops to present the results. Participate in informal seminars organized by the lab or the UF.

Other duties as assigned
Perform other related duties within the scope of the position, as assigned. Be available to advise members of the lab. Stay current with knowledge and expertise related to the major projects of the lab by following the literature to help generate ideas for new projects. Attend relevant training courses, take on-line skills training, and learn from others with similar skills.

Expected Salary:

$53,000 - $58,000 commensurate with skills, education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Dependability and reliability.
  • Able to troubleshoot own work.
  • Advanced degree in computer science, bioengineering, bioinformatics or related field and at least 2 years of relevant research experience with omics and clinical data.
  • Ability to design a study analysis plan and perform computational analyses using R, Python, and/or Java.
  • Past experience of collaborative research using omics, microbiome and clinical data.
  • Programming in R, Java or Python.
  • Ability to clean and merge data, create new variables, and transfer datasets using software, such as Excel, R.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple scientists.
