Job Description:
Child Health and Parenting Services (CHAPS)
CHaPS are a community-based service within the Tasmanian Health Service and offer child health screening and surveillance with regular recommended milestone growth and development checks for all Tasmanian children aged 0–5 years.
The CHaPS provide advice and support for parents related to their child’s development including breastfeeding, nutrition advice, sleep, infant or perinatal mental health screening and support, parent-child relationships and parenting support.
Nurses work in a range of settings including standalone clinics staffed by one or more nurses, clinics based in community health centres, clinics on school sites and Department of Education Child and Family Centres. CHaPS nurses commonly work across a range of these settings, working in partnership with local communities and organisations.
The Role:
- Strengthen health outcomes through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate nursing care in partnership with clients, their families and other health professionals within the child and family health practice area.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate health care in collaboration with individuals/groups, families and communities.
- Practice in accordance with the NMBA codes and guidelines for registered nurses and midwives.
- Involve families/significant others in the planning and implementation of child-centred health care.

Details of Appointment:
Multiple permanent, full time, part time, day work, position working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing ASAP
Fixed term, full time, day work, position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing ASAP until 23 August 2023
*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

Base Salary: $ 67,982 - $ 93,964 per annum + 10.5% superannuation
- Access to the Grade 4 salary range $87,970 - $93,964 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qualification type
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $750 per annum
Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
- Current Driver’s Licence
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Holds a recognised child and family health nursing qualification, or is working towards same
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
