Zoological Medicine Veterinary Technician I\/II (CARE)<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

A Veterinary Technician in the Zoological Medicine Service at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital provides nursing care to a wide variety of species including both exotic and wildlife patients, assisting with receiving appointments, performing routine and complex anesthesia, surgical and dental procedures, and is involved in every aspect of patient care. This service has a high caseload of patients for both routine and emergency care and technicians in this team must thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy teaching nursing skills, be driven to learn new approaches frequently, and appreciate a team-oriented approach to veterinary care. This position is considered essential personnel<\/p>

The ideal candidate has ample veterinary experience in wildlife\/exotic medicine.<\/p>

Examples of work include but not limited to:
\u2022 Assisting with patient evaluations or rechecks by assisting in patient restraint, obtaining and submitting samples, scheduling with other services for diagnostic or consultation purposes, and providing treatment or medications
\u2022 Performing triage assessments and prioritizing cases as they present
\u2022 Performing general nursing care such as venipuncture, catheter placement, patient restraint, treatments, medication administration, and sample collection
\u2022 Performing basic anesthesia and sedation procedures including patient monitoring and recovery
\u2022 o Handling all internal and external calls in a professional and welcoming manner
o Triaging calls and determining urgency
o Documenting communication in a clear and concise manner within electronic medical record
o Confirming and ensuring owners are prepared for their appointment
o Scheduling patients for future appointments prior to being discharged from hospital
o Planning, organizing, and coordinating appointments, consultations, and diagnostic procedures appropriately with other services
\u2022 Instructing students and new team members including fellow technicians, assistants, and volunteers in technical skills and professionalism using a variety of teaching techniques
\u2022 Evaluating and monitoring progress and intervening when necessary to ensure their success<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

$18- $25, pay based on credentialing and experience<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent and one year relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational\/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.<\/p>

Tech II: Credentialed veterinary technician.<\/p><\/td><\/tr>

Credentialed technician
