Job Description:

The Role:

Responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated
site/facility. Provide after-hours emergency as determined by the relevant work unit.

There are two Accredited RACP Advanced Trainee positions, at North West Regional Hospital, Burnie (NWRH) and Mersey Community Hospital, Latrobe (MCH), with accreditation for the following rotations –

Advanced Trainees have the opportunity to rotate in the above areas, and there will be the opportunity to transition to other Tasmanian Hospitals to complete any remaining years of Advanced Training.

The Hospital:

The Department of Health - North West encompasses two hospitals, the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), in Burnie and the Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe.

The NWRH has a 30 bed general medical and palliative ward and the Acute Medical Unit is a 6 bed ward. The NWRH is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for Basic Physician Training Level One, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) for 12 months training in the discipline of Adult Internal Medicine for doctors working towards fellowship qualifications.

The Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) Medical Department has 34 acute beds and a recently-opened 12 bed Rehabilitation Unit. Our trainees are actively involved in ward rounds and patient assessment and management and find they are well prepared for further registrar training opportunities.

Details of Appointment:

Multiple fixed term, full time, day worker (with on-call) positions working 80 hours per fortnight to commence on 6 February 2023 until 5 February 2024.

Salary: $97,946 - $138,593 per annum + 10% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  1. General registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration.

  1. Current Driver’s Licence

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    • Crimes of violence
    • Sex related offences
    • Serious drug offences
