About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, London or Dublin

Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 depending on skills and experience + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Key to our growth ambition, SSE Renewables Onshore Europe have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to support our engineering activities across the pipeline of onshore wind development projects. This role will be not only responsible for coordinating the engineering due diligence of new project opportunities but will be responsible for some of our international renewable project design, integration and delivery.

Some of your main accountabilities will include;

- Coordinating multi-discipline teams to undertake engineering due diligence on new renewable project opportunities. Communicating engineering risk, threats and opportunities to senior business leaders.

- Assist in the development of processes to ensure a rigorous and standardised approach to due diligence of new renewable projects, streamlining the involvement of experts such as Technical Authorities, whilst ensuring adequate coverage of available information.

- The role will coordinate the engineering delivery of international onshore projects, coordinating engineering resource and compliance with SSE Renewables Large Capital Projects Framework through governance and assurance activities. The projects will be predominantly Onshore Wind, but other technologies will be incorporated into the portfolio.

- The role will have responsibility to driving value on designated projects by identifying and delivering on design refinement and improvement opportunities.

- The role may be required to take on roles of responsibility to discharge statutory or contractual requirements such as Construction Design Management (CDM) equivalent roles.

- There will likely be management responsibilities with this role as the team grows, so leadership, development and mentoring of staff within a team will be a key responsibility as well as significant input into recruitment of staff.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would be looking for you to have:

- An engineering degree and be either chartered or working towards chartership with a recognised institution.

- Experience of coordinating engineering activities on renewable energy projects (i.e., wind, hydro, solar, hydrogen, battery storage) is essential, as is an understanding of the development process for renewable energy project design and delivery.

- An understanding of what Due Diligence activities on new renewable energy projects look like and preferably would have conducted this in the past.

- Demonstrable experience of bringing a multi-disciplinary team together with a common purpose, together with previous experience of coordinating technical support and external stakeholders, to provide expert opinion and approval across design reviews, key decisions and risk reviews.

- Enthusiasm and commitment to deliver engineering excellence on world class projects, with the ability to challenge the status quo and strive for continuous improvement.
