UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking an intermediate-level Communications Specialist to join the Customer Experience & Resource Planning team, a unit within UFIT.

Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other employees dedicated and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspirational community.

IT-Communications is a group within the Customer Experience & Resource Planning department of UFIT. UFIT is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist to join the IT-Communications group.

With guidance from the Associate Director for Communications, the Communications Specialist will support the communications and engagement needs of UFIT. This will be accomplished with a heavy writing workload, including news items for UFIT-owned and university-wide channels, targeted social media posts, website content, presentations, and video scripts. The Communications Specialist will also support the processes for UFIT-owned display monitors on campus, providing staff support for outreach events, creating graphics content for UFIT’s digital space, and performing additional duties that further awareness and understanding of the services and support provided by UFIT to the university community.

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for writing, photographing, and creating content for the eight departments of UFIT, often with content deadlines overlapping for simultaneous assignments.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record of writing on deadline and managing organizational social media accounts. The successful applicant will also understand metrics for evaluating social media performance. A strong understanding of the campus environment, its organizational structure, and familiarity with UF’s information technology services is strongly preferred. Applicants must have an excellent proficiency level in AP Style (a timed quiz will be given to all finalists) and experienced in developing content for face-to-face, print, and online channels.

Expected Salary:

$46,000 – $52,000; commensurate based on education and experience. In addition, the University of Florida offers a very competitive benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and skills:

  • Expert knowledge of AP Style to produce and edit documentation on behalf of UFIT. (Timed quiz on AP Style will be given to position finalists)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) required to perform daily communications tasks
  • Familiarity with the organizational structure of the University of Florida, its mission, and primary stakeholder groups
  • Proven writing ability, preferably in higher education or technology, and used to a deadline environment
  • Demonstrated experience communicating through a variety of print, web, face-to-face, and social media platforms
