Job Description:

The Role:

Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is a 400 bed public hospital providing acute care services and is the major referral centre for North and North West regions of Tasmania. It is a teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania and accredited with the RACP for advanced training in a number of specialties including General Medicine.

During your Advanced Physician Training at the LGH you will be exposed to a wide range of well supported inpatient and outpatient work. There are opportunities to rotate to a number of specialties including Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Stroke, Cardiology and Rehabilitation at advanced training level.

We encourage our trainees to be actively involved in teaching both via the university and with the teaching program for the Basic Physician Trainees. There is also ample opportunity for research and many of our specialist staff are well published. We are well supported by the Clifford Craig Foundation with research grants available to successful applicants, including trainees.

Launceston is a beautiful and accessible part of Tasmania with the opportunity for work life balance above what is afforded in larger cities. Launceston is a one hour flight from Melbourne and in a central and accessible distance to all of Tasmania’s environmental wonders.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term, full time day work (with on call), 80 hours per fortnight commencing 6 February 2023 until 4 February 2024.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary:

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $97,946 - $138,593 per annum plus 10.5% superannuation, access to salary packaging and applicable allowances and loadings.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

1. Demonstrated understanding of “Good Medical Practice – A Code of Conduct for Doctors in Australia”.
2. Demonstrated commitment to medicine, including rural and regional medicine in Tasmania.
3. Knowledge of recent advances in medicine including current drugs and technology.
4. Demonstrated understanding of Infection Control principles.
5. Demonstrated effective communication skills with patients, their family/carers, medical colleagues and
other health professionals.
6. Demonstrated understanding of patient's rights and responsibilities.

To be appointed as a Senior Registrar the following additional Selection Criteria must also be met

1. Four years of post-graduate experience.
2. Enrolled in a recognised specialty training program, successfully completed all fellowship examinations
relevant to their training program and employment, and be within one year of obtaining specialist
fellowship

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    1. crimes of violence
    2. sex related offences
    3. serious drug offences
    4. crimes involving dishonesty
  2. Identification check
  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
