About the Department

SSE Enterprise Utilities is the Distributed Energy (DE) and Private Networks business of SSE plc. We finance, own, operate and maintain energy infrastructure for commercial, industrial and residential customers - providing them with a market leading project development service and certainty of operational performance and asset management.

What is the Role?

As a Project Development Engineer, you'll work within an exciting, challenging and growing area of the SSE Enterprise business, leading multi-disciplinary engineering design teams in the evaluation of opportunities, preparation of bids, development of conceptual and front-end engineering designs, and progression of detailed designs for a wide variety of complex projects for a broad range of customers and potential clients.

Your passion for engineering will drive you to embed innovation into the solutions which you will lead your design team to develop, such that you successfully optimise scope, cost, programme and risk for your projects, considering health, safety, and the environment throughout.

You will influence senior people inside and outside of our business to successfully move your projects through the Enterprise Gate Process, demonstrating excellent leadership skills throughout. You will have the opportunity to grow as a professional individual while you help grow the business, and you will be supported in your personal development throughout.

Your energy market knowledge, and engineering expertise will play a crucial role in increasing bid success for our business, and in doing so, drive business growth.

Your Skills and Experience

You will be qualified to degree level in a relevant STEM subject, ideally in Electrical Engineering or a related topic within the energy industry. You will have a broad understanding of all areas of the energy industry; in particular distributed energy technology, smart energy systems and transmission and distribution networks. You will also have a strong understanding of the UK energy market and regulations.

In particular, you will have strong experience in either the development and design of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure to BS7671; LV, MV and HV power networks; and/or the development and design of energy generation projects.

You will be a highly motivated individual with effective written and spoken communication skills. You will have a flexible approach that lends itself to collaborating with colleagues and customers at a high level.
