The UF/IFAS Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is seeking a leader to provide the day-to-day management of EFNEP in Escambia County. EFNEP is a federally funded program that teaches income-constrained families how to eat healthy on a budget and be more physically active to reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease. What is EFNEP

EFNEP is a free nutrition education program for families with limited resources. EFNEP collaborates with community partners across the state to improve food and physical activity behaviors. Peer educators teach adult and youth participants in a series of lessons how to stretch food dollars, eat nutritious meals, and improve overall health following research-tested curricula.

The Opportunity

As the EFNEP Extension Program Manager (EPM), and supervisor of peer educators, you will be joining a signature Extension program impacting thousands of Floridians each year. As the state’s premier land-grant university, UF offers free educational programs through Extension to provide solutions for everyday problems facing Florida’s families. As part of Extension, you will be joining a network that has served Floridians for over 100 years. You will lead a passionate team and be an ambassador for University of Florida, IFAS Extension, and EFNEP to local stakeholders.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Provide supervision and leadership for the EFNEP team in Escambia County.
  • Promote the program locally and recruit teaching sites
  • Provide regular training and coaching to staff
  • Complete annual county plan(s) and budgets(s)
  • Submit monthly reports to capture programming data and successes
  • Travel as necessary within the county and occasionally within the state of Florida for training

Expected Salary:

$45,000 - $51,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to contribute to a positive, productive team environment using leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to form and maintain positive working relationships with EFNEP colleagues locally and throughout the state, as well as Extension colleagues and program partners. Demonstrate a courteous and helpful manner, and an active commitment to diversity in all its forms.

Ability to maintain organized work files and revisions of documents. Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and able to quickly learn basics of new software. Ability to maximize digital tools for productivity, communication, and organization. A high degree of integrity, accuracy, and timeliness in all work. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, dependability, and resourcefulness. Ability to maintain complete and organized records. Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Personnel management and leadership of diverse teams is desired. Ability to synthesize, communicate and enforce program policies and procedures is highly preferred. Superior ability to provide training and coach staff to achieve success in the program.

Willingness and ability to travel independently.

Degree in human nutrition or closely related field, education, nonprofit management, business, sociology or public administration preferred. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/N), and/or Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LD/N) is helpful but not required. Experience with public health is helpful.
