Job Description:

IPPD is a multidisciplinary engineering senior design capstone program in the Department of Engineering Education at the University of Florida. During our one-year course, IPPD students work in teams under the guidance of faculty coaches and industry liaisons to design and build engineering projects for sponsoring companies and organizations.

The IPPD Course Assistant works directly with the IPPD Program Director to support the facilitation of the course. The position responsibilities include:

  • Monitor student performance in course and project deliverables, providing feedback where appropriate
  • Grade assignments and record grades in Canvas, including (but not limited to):
    • Individual assignments
    • Group assignments
    • Quizzes
    • Project weekly status memos
    • Evaluation feedback memos
    • Student completion of evaluations and surveys
    • Deliverable reports (professional style and technical writing), based on assignment rubrics and previous experience from relevant courses
    • Class participation
    • Team blogs
    • Multimedia deliverables
  • Monitor submissions for late assignment requests and excused absence requests
  • Meet weekly with the IPPD Director for feedback and instructions
  • Implement updates to the Canvas course shell based on explicit instructions from the IPPD Director

The time commitment required for this position is up to 20 hours each week between August 24, 2022, and May 5, 2023.

Class attendance is required. Class is on Tuesday, periods 8 through 10, both fall and spring semesters.

There will be no need to hold office hours; however, the course assistant should be accessible during business hours via email (using an IPPD email address), Canvas messaging, and Microsoft Teams chat.

Working remotely is generally discouraged, but may be allowed for certain tasks.

The IPPD Course Assistant will NOT have any teaching responsibility.

Students with Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility are encouraged to apply.

Expected Salary:

$15 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

  • Experience grading assignments in Canvas
  • Able to attend class on Tuesdays, periods 8 through 10, both fall and spring semesters
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft SharePoint
  • Ability to communicate and work well as part of a team
  • Organized approach and excellent time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1st year graduate student OR senior undergraduate student currently pursuing an engineering degree
