Job Description:

The Royal Hobart Hospital is a tertiary hospital, offering a wide variety of medical and surgical subspecialties. The RHH has full diagnostic services available. There is provision of sub-specialty advice and support, and ICU support, as one would expect from a tertiary teaching hospital.

RHH is seeking applicants for 6-month term, effective 08 August 2022 to end of current Registrar year:

  • To fill vacant Gastroenterology Registrar position (an accredited Core General Medicine Advanced Trainee position)

  • The applicant must be either a registered General Medicine Advanced Trainee or a Basic Physician Trainee registered with the RACP.

  • The position is a full-time AT Registrar position within the Department of General Medicine, rotating into Gastroenterology. The trainee would be working full time in the Gastroenterology Department alongside an accredited Gastroenterology AT.

  • Duties include ward-based inpatient management of patients under the Gastroenterology team, consultations for patients with GI issues at the Royal Hobart Hospital, and outpatient management including clinics and Endoscopy lists.

  • There will be on-call duties included in this role, and weekend cover duties for the Gastroenterology Department, supported by the Consultants.


$97,946 - $138,593 per annum

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital as determined by the Medical Workforce Unit.

Essential Requirements

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
