About the Role

Base Location: Perth and Edinburgh (with a requirement to be based in the office 2-3 days per week, with flexibility to work from home / another SSE office the remainder of the week).

Salary: £46,100 - £69,100 depending on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

EPM&I front office is expanding our trading and analysis capabilities and we are now looking to recruit a talented individual with a genuine interest in developing a career with one of the UK's leading energy companies as a Senior Prompt Energy Trading Analyst.

Your primary focus will be to help ensure our renewable energy portfolio is economically managed and value adding by supporting the decision-making process of the prompt and operations trading teams. Working in deep collaboration with existing EPM&I business analysts and system experts to drive strategy and develop operational modelling tools to better facilitate trading decision making. To do this you will build, maintain and operate complex analytical tools and numerical models to articulate complex trading proposals which will require advanced programming skills and database operation.

Depending on your skills and experience, your role could give you the opportunity and responsibility to trade prompt financial and physical energy products in the GB energy markets.

Some of your main accountabilities will include:

- Analysis of key market fundamentals and internal processes to optimise decision making across the desk.

- Use your extensive energy market experience and analytical ability to perform quantitative analysis of market trends and commercial opportunities.

- Operate and develop trade support and market models to the highest standards to ensure traders and senior managers have timely access to information to enhance decision making.

- Build new market and price modelling tools for trading and market analysis while enhancing existing models as necessary to ensure -business continuity.

- Liaise and collaborate with EPM businesses to develop optimal trading strategies for the growing Renewables portfolio with statistical tooling to evaluate these strategies.

Due to the timings of the energy markets you will be required to work earlier starts to ensure data and tools are prepared for the operations and trading teams.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, we'd love you to have: -

- A successful and extensive track record in an energy trading environment related capacity along with and demonstrable knowledge of industry players, industry structure and commercial mechanisms and drivers.

- To be, preferably, educated to degree level, in a numerical discipline such as, but not limited to, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Economics. Knowledge of programming languages such as Python is expected as are skills to develop modelling or statistical tools.

- Personable with the ability to work as part of a team, with drive and energy and drive to succeed, with proven examples of overcoming challenges to deliver success.

- Motivated, highly organised self-starter with the capacity to work independently and as part of a team.

- Diligent, responsible and reliable with a close attention to detail.
